Hill Climb Championship - Hough on the Hill, 24 September 2006

In a bid to increase numbers, for the first time the Hill Climb was run
on the same day as the Down Hill at Hough on the Hill.
An interesting choice for a hill climb consisting of a 1/2 mile slight
uphill drag then around 150yds steep effort with a drag to the finish.
The results would probably have been the same on any hill but from an
anti-gravity 'make it hurt' perspective Terrace has got to be the
better option.

1st Jimmy Coleman 1.58
2nd Phil Etches       2.11
3rd Tom Mendham 2.20
4th Rob Howbrook 2.30
5th Simon Cocker 2.32
6th Peter Paine     2.50
7th ? 3.00
8th Mike Lewis      3.50 (?)

Apologies if I forgot anybody.

After a suitable rest we then gathered for the Downhill, where Tony
Mendham, having showed all his experience by volunteering to officiate
in the Hillclimb, took a clear win by approximately 10 yards from
Simon. This clearly shows the benefits of saving your efforts to focus
on the big event, a lesson to us all.

There followed a muted discussion about whether to hold the Walk a
mile, Run a mile, Bike a mile but with Peter Paine having thrown his
trainers in a bin in the Market place to avoid having to take part,,
the event was called of through lack of interest and we went for a
'steady' ride back to Grantham via the Vale of Belvoir instead.
