Witham Wheelers promoted the latest round of the Lincolnshire Handicap Road race league over 3 laps of the Skillington circuit.
12 club riders took part with Terry Crosby having his first go at road racing enjoying the ride in the first group but retiring with a lap to go.
Group 2 containing Simon Cocker and Toby Kiely rode stongly, quickly catching group 1 and then holding off the rest of the race until around 10 miles to go.
At this stage the race came together with the remnants of groups 3,4 and 5 finally hitting the front to form a front group of around 30 riders. Paul Conneely attacked on the drag up to Saltby but was soon reeled in. Wojciech Lokony from Spalding attacked the last time through Skillington and dangling just in front of the bunch held on up the finish hill for a narrow win.
The bunch stayed together until the hill which distanced the weaker riders with Ben Green from Lincoln taking the sprint for second place in front of ex professional rider Dave Millar of Newark.
Best club finisher was Paul Conneely in 6th closely followed by supervet Phil Etches 8th, Chris Sammler 11th, 2009 Champion Neil Sentance 15th and schoolboy Peter Cocker 19th.
Also taking part were Ross Tomblin, Richard Ellingworth, Dave Ostler and Peter Barnes.
