COLEMAN CROWNED LINCS LEAGUE ROAD RACE CHAMPION 2008
Jim Coleman was crowned Lincs League Road Race Champion 2008 in the final round of the series on 30 July at Ashby, Sleaford. Needing to achieve at least fourth place on the night to secure the title, Jim did just that after bravely launching an attack two miles out in a bid to keep out of trouble from a fast moving, forty man peloton. His kick proved decisive and he was able to fend off all but three other riders who managed to hang in when he attacked and then passed him on the final sprint to the line. But he had done enough and the result completed an excellent year for Jim, having already secured his 1st cat licence earlier in the season.
Their was another good turnout of Wobblies on the night with Kim Paxton going off in group 1, Phil Atherton and Dave Herd in group 2, Nigel Podam and Neil Sentance in group 3 and Jim Coleman, Tom Mendham, Dave Ostler, Paul Conneelly and Ant Conneelly in the scratch group 4. All the Wobblies rode strongly within their respective groups and it was pleasing to see no-one get dropped on the night and all finish within the main bunch of the peloton. Tom was the next best placed Wobbly coming in the top 10 and Neil, Nige, Dave Ostler, Paul and Ant all finished strongly in the sprint for the line and secured top twentyish positions. Phil, Dave Herd and Kim were all well within the peloton until the final sprint for the line and rode over at the back of the bunch to crown a good night for the club.
