First event of the 2008 series of Go-Ride coaching and training races at Barkston Heath and the good news was that it wasn't raining, although a bitterly cold wind was blowing across the circuit.
A good turn out for both the under and over 16 events with quite a few new faces promising some good racing once the handicapping settles down. In the senior event, money must have changed hands, when last years 3rd rider overall Will Hare was sent off in the first group and was able to jump across to the scratch group just as they were setting off.
With no one strong enough to split the scratch group in the hard conditions it was down to probably the biggest bunch sprint so far seen at Barkston Heath. Unfortunately Adam Ellis clipped one of the tyre walls on the last lap crashing heavily but not bringing anyone else down, leaving Neil Sentance, back from New Zealand, to take the sprint but Will Hare still in the bunch took the overall win.
Adam Ellis is reported to have a broken collarbone but otherwise OK, we hope he recovers quickly and soon back on the road. |
