Good conditions greeted the riders and support team as they gathered in Spilsby market place for the 2nd club sportive ride. Phil Etches had devised a devious route up to Caistor and back which showed off the delights of cycling in the Lincolnshire Wolds. Traffic free roads, a mixture of rolling hills and some surprisingly steep ones, picturesque villages and some panoramic rural views.
Those taking part:
Phil Etches, Phil Atherton, Peter Pain, Simon Cocker, Martin Hedley, Anthony Conneely, Jacob Doughty and a Polish guest rider from Spalding.
Jeff Ellingworth in the broom wagon with Janet and Alan East providing photography.
Photograph shows lunch break in Caistor market place at halfway.
Stats of the day from Peter Pain's gadget.
Distance: 98.51 miles completed. Phil did less - cut the odd corner and was seen hanging on the back of the van!
Time: 5hours 41 mins (Biking time - pee stops about an hour, tube legs you know who you are)
Climbing 3,340 feet
Descending 3,232 feet (don't asked why they are not the same, strange things happening in the Wolds)
Average Speed: 17.3mph (Phil - we were in the range stop moaning!)
Calories burnt 6,888Kcal
All in all a great day out. For those that chose to stay at home you missed out on a good challenge.
To the Phils thanks for organising especially that last hill - just what you need at the end of the day just to make sure you get that burning sensation right to the end. Janet and Alan thank you for the support and kind words of encouragement. Geoff well done in providing the support vehicle - how are you going to explain all scratches down the paint work . Must not forget all of the other riders and especially Simon for taking us down country lanes of a bygone era.
Oh must not forget - a big thank you to Poland for lending us their star rider for the day. I am not going to try and spell his name but great to have someone join us from another club.
Looking forward to September/October when we take on the Peaks and Dales - but not in the same day
