A 3/4 category event promoted by Rockingham Forest Wheelers; over 90 km
on
a lumpy circuit in the Welland Valley. Jimmy Coleman and Shaun Culpin
took part with Shaun being active early on but a puncture forced a
premature retirement.
No significant breaks went off the front of the race but a combination
of the main hill, known locally as the Devils staircase and the heat
caused a steady stream of riders being dropped off the back.
Jimmy rode within himself until the final lap when a turn of power,
well known to participants on the Sunday club runs, took him clear on
the final climb up to the finish to cross the line first with a
comfortable margin over the rest of the bunch, led in by ex-top Junior
Brett Harwood.
The win was witnessed by the remnants of the Sunday morning Club run
Nigel, Phil and Simon who had an extended pass. Seeing Jimmy win plus
an excellent cup of tea and Bread & Butter pudding at the Rocking
ham
Forest club room made a hot and hilly 75 miles well worth the effort.
