Final event in the inaugural Barkston Heath series; unfortunately the
dark clouds and forecast downpours appear to have scared many away,
which was their loss as the rain never materialised and both events
were run in dry conditions.
In the U-16 event Ben Smith continued his good run of form with a clear
win from Jade Ostler and Peter Cocker.

In the Senior event Patrick Owen turned the event into a solo time
trial by jumping away from the scratch group on the first lap to score
a clear win, none of the other riders having the strength to go with
him. The rest of the scratch group continued working to catch the limit
group with 3 laps to go and Tom Mendham took a close bunch sprint.

Final note
As someone who started the year with low fitness levels and ambitions,
I can only say that the races at Barkston Heath have been an excellent
series. They provide a good workout in safe conditions in a very
informal atmosphere with a minimal entry fee and you do not have to
drive very far, what more could you want?
Hopefully the people involved in setting these up think it is
worthwhile to have another go next year and more people will give it a
go and we can try and attract some more youngsters.
