A good club turn out for the Witham Wheelers promotion both competing
and marshalling.
The event was split into 4 groups with the first one including Jade
Ostler being given 10 minutes on the second group which was packed with
club members both officially and unofficially, including Tom Mendham,
Dave Herd, Simon Cocker, Michael Ostler, Rich Ellingworth, Nigel Podham
and Phil Etches. Shaun Culpin started in the 3rd Group and Jimmy
Coleman in the 4th after placings in all the previous rounds.
A strong westerley wind seemed to deter the second group from working
cohesively and with 1 of the 3 laps to go they still had 5 minutes to
make up on the remnants of the first group who later it transpired were
lapping consistently at 25 mph!!
Not long into the 3rd lap the 2nd, 3rd and 4th groups merged and thats
how it stayed until the finish with a few attempts to break away from
the group but none gaining any real time gaps.
This group contested the sprint for 4th place, won by ex professional
Steve Wakefield from Grimsby with Jimmy 5th and Shaun 8th. Phil and Tom
also figured in the sprint with Nigel, Simon, Rich and Michael
following in at the back of the bunch.
Dave Ostler unluckily punctured with 5 miles to go while looking strong
in the bunch and well done to Jade for finishing the event in such
windy conditions.
