A cold overcast evening with an unbelievable recording of 13 degrees celsius, giving us a heavy atmosphere and this week the forecast was right, it was slower. Sixteen riders started and finished, two down on the first two weeks, probably indicating that some felt it would rain but that did hold off until later in the night. Even allowing for the fact that it was slower there were five riders who improved on their season's best so far, but that was probably more to do with the fact that they are getting fitter.
Yet again Dave Strickson was the fastest even though he was 36secs down on his season best. He was followed by John Spendlow and then Bill Harrison who improved on his season best by 13 secs pushing John Burgess down to 4th., John having gone back by over a minute. Both guest riders improved, Peter Kemp with 27:50 and Ben Smith returning in 36:57.
There was a new winner of the handicap this week in Glenn Meredith who took over the lead in the season competition by three points from last year's winner Thomas Mendham with his father, Tony, taking third spot, tying with Dave Strickson, a further three points behind. Annie Arthur is close behind on 19 points.
In the season-long competition for the best veteran on standard, Dave Herd set the target of 3:12 in the first week and increased the target for the challengers in the second week to 3:27.
