20 April 2004
A change from last week with the sky overcast making it noticeably a few degrees colder and a stronger breeze from the south-east making it hard in the unsheltered sections. All this convinced the officials and observers at the start/finish that it was going to be a slower night. We were soon proved wrong as the first finisher came in sight far sooner than anticipated followed by all riders improving on last week with the exception of the last two finishers who were 11 and 15 seconds slower. Dave Strickson again led the field with 23:15, followed again by John Burgess and Dave Herd. There were some excellent performances by the guests, led by Rick Berry in 23:55, followed by Mark and Charlotte Colclough in 24:00 and 28:28, Peter Kemp in 29:32 and Ben Smith with an improved 37:08.
In the League competition Annie Arthur was unable to attend and defend her lead so an ever-improving Thomas Mendham, with a further improvement and winning on the night, leads the season-long competition with 18 points, followed by Glenn Meredith & Dave Strickson, 16 pts, Tony Mendham, 14pts, Annie Arthur, 10pts, Bill Harrison & Rob Howbrook, 8 pts, Matt Penifold, 6 pts, Richard Edwards and Rob Johnson, 4 pts and Dave Herd & John Burgess, 3 pts.
