The field was 46 strong at the start. Soon after the neutralised section of two and a bit miles, seven riders went free including Huw Pritchard, Matthew Stephens and Jamie Albert. A chasing break of 6 riders lead by Malcolm Elliott chased them for a lap and caught them only for a break of Huw, Jamie and Neil Smith to go away. They were chased by 9 riders led by Matt and Malcolm and caught them after about half a lap.
This group stayed together until the hill, just before the bell, when pressure was applied and the Huw Pritchard, Matthew Stephens and Jamie Albert got away chased by three inc. Malcolm, three more including Neil Smith and then a twosome off the back and then the bunch. Jamie dropped back on the last lap and John Charlesworth made a valiant chase to finish third. Huw outsprinted Matt on the finishing straight. Malcolm outsprinted the second group of three to finish 4th.
