29/1/12
The 3rd round of the winter Mountain bike race saw good rides by the 6 wheelers taking part in the 2 hour endurance race. On a more difficult course than than the earlier 2 rounds and up to 500 riders on mainly single track it was always going to be a difficult race but Paul Conneely was on good form and yet again the only club rider to complete 4 laps. The others all completed 3 with Dave Moulds and John Clifton having a good race and changing positions on every lap with John just finishing seconds in front of Dave. Rob Johnson had Dave in his sight on the last lap but couldn’t manage to catch him up before the finish. Mak had a good ride but yet again hit the deck!! and Jon Beere found the going tough in his first mtb ride for a while.
Results: Paul 47th 4 laps,
John 82nd 3 laps,
Dave 84th 3 laps,
Rob 87th 3 laps,
Mak 106th 3 laps
Jon 116th 3 laps

4/12 Thetford mtb winter series round 2
Six club riders took part in the second winter series at Thetford with another maximum field of 500 riders. The course was more technical than the one used last month with bomb holes, single track, a couple of steep down hills and some fast sections. Paul Conneely led the way from the start with the rest trying in vain to keep up with him. Ian Makevit had an off on lap one and was forced to retire with a bruised shoulder, Rob Johnson and guest Brian Cooke also stopped before the finish. The other 3 riders finished well with Dave Moulds completing 4 laps in 2 hrs 20 mins for 90th overall and John Clifton 4 laps in 2 hrs 23mins for 102nd place, both good improvements on their positions in the first race.
Best club rider was Paul finishing an excellent 51st in 2hrs 9 mins for the 4 laps.
The next round is at the end of January and anybody that wants to go along to watch or take part should ask the lads about it. |

Four Witham Wheelers: Dave Moulds, Ian Makevit, Richard Ellingsworth and John Clifton and guest Brian Cook made the trip down to Thetford Forest for the first round of the four round WhyteWinter series of 2 hour endurance races. With 500riders from all over the country a good start was vital with most of the circuit on single track and all the club riders were having their first taste of this style of racing.
Dave was the first Wheeler home in 2hrs22min completing 4 laps finishing in 104th position, not far behind was Ian in 2hrs 25 mins finishing in 112th, then came Brian in 2hrs 29 mins finishing 121st and John Clifton in 2hrs 32 mins finishing 125th. Rich Elliingworh retired after 2 laps feeling the effects of a recent cold. All riders enjoyed the event and will be making the 2 hour journey back in early December for round two.
