Sometimes called ‘The Race of Truth’, Time trialling involves trying to cover a set distance in the lowest possible time. Distances vary depending on the event.
The standard race distances are over 10, 25, 50 and 100 miles. Some events take place over set time periods of 12 and 24 hours and involve trying to cover the furthest distance in the time limit. ‘Sporting’ events are held over odd distances and are usually run over courses covering quiet circuits which can often be quite hilly.
Throughout the season the club organises time trials over a variety of distances and courses. We have a league of ten mile time trials that are a good way to get into competitive cycling and are also a good way for experienced cyclists to hone their fitness. The course we use runs along Gorse Lane to the south of Grantham from the bridge over the A1 by the water tower to the A607 junction and back, covering 10 miles. A good club rider can cover this course in a little over 23 minutes. |
