Reliability Rides 2010 - 32m with 25m starter

An excellent turnout of 39 riders for the first in the 2010 series of Witham Wheelers reliability rides starting from the Cricket Club on Gorse Lane. With riders keen to get out after the recent bad weather but with a subsequent lack of training, getting in the right speed group was always going to be difficult
The main route being 32 miles out towards Waltham and taking in 3 hills around Belvoir Castle on the way back to Gorse lane. The emphasis was for each group to try and finish together in the target speed range.
Group 1, with riders aged from 10 to 65 and including a tandem and a trike on a slightly shorter 25 mile route finished just under 10mph after an enjoyable ride.
Group 2 kept together well all the way round only splitting up on the last hill. Father and son duos Peter and Carl Jennings and Reece and Mick Egner rode well in their first reliability after starting with group 1 and almost finishing with group 2. Martin Lister unfortunately punctured 3 times but persevered to the finish.
Group 3 kept together well until the first climb upto Belvoir Castle when it split apart to finish in ones and twos.
Group 4 rode hard all the way round but ended with 5 out of the 6 riders being disqualified for breaking the speed limit. An appeal is currently with CAS (Court of Arbitration in Sport)
