If the thought of 6 months without thrashing up and down Gorse Lane depresses you or you will miss the thrill of getting dropped by the scratch group in the latest handicap R-R how about an hour spent grovelling around a muddy field as an excellent way of keeping fit during the winter and maintaining a competitive edge.
The Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League runs from mid September through to the New Year and there are quite a few events not far from Grantham.
They follow the same format with:
| Race |
Start time |
Distance |
| Youth (U16) |
10.30 |
30 mins |
| U12 |
11.15 |
15 mins |
| Sen/Women/vet |
12.15 |
60 mins |
| Junior (U18) |
12.15 |
45 mins |
These are promoted under British Cycling regulations, so you need to take out membership (Bronze will do) or take out a day membership at the event.
You can use a mountain bike to start, but if you want to take it seriously then a proper ‘cross’ bike will enable you to be more competitive.
