Sportives 2008
Sunday 18 May 2008 The second event will be a tour of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Following on from the very successful Echo Challenge 100 in April the second ride in the Witham Wheelers Sportives calendar will start and end in Spilsby. PDF files: More details» The Route»

The Sportives events are planned so that all club members who feel they are up to the challenge of a 100 mile ride can take part. About the Sportives»

Lincs League 2008
As quite a few club members are planning to ride the Lincs League, this year, the events have been added to the club event list with details of the orgainsers.
These events are good introduction to road racing, being handicapped over around 30 miles distance and run on a quite informal basis on alternate Wednesday evenings through the summer.
They are promoted by the TLI, you can get a day licence at the race but if you are planning to ride several then it might be worth joining, see details» Joining Form» (pdf files)
If you are planning to ride an event and can offer a lift to another club member, please post a note on the club message board.

Sunday Clubruns
9.30 start It is hoped that the later start will be a regular option for those riders wanting a steadier pace than that on offer at 9.00. Bill will confirm on the notice board during the week if he will be leading a ride.

9.00am Start
After the start of British Summer Time clubruns will now be starting at 9.00 from the Market Place to take advantage of the glorious spring weather.
The intent is to set a designated route beforehand so that everyone has an idea of where we will be going and can either join in or find their own way home as they see fit.
A series of routes (courtesy of Phil Etches) have been posted on the clubrun page (Click here to see them) and the chosen route will be nominated before the weekend and posted on the message board. We will see how the idea works and fine tune it as necessary.

Click on 'Club runs' in the menu for full details of past and future club runs. Or click here.

Reliability Rides 2008
The final Reliability ride was 100 miles on 16 March.
The weather forecast was unfortunately accurate and your on-the-spot reporter was left contemplating a deserted market place at the allotted 8.30 start time.
Deciding that modern riders are just too soft he retired to the gym for a run on the treadmill and a swim.
Hopefully the weather will be better for the club sportives later in the year. Simon

Thursday Jan 10th to March 27th (8:15pm)- Coach: Peter Pain
How much: £36 for the 12 week session
Everyone who wanted a ride has got one, so nobody has 2 rides, if you know you cannot make a particular session please let one of the coaches know so that the seat can be allocated to someone else.

Members meet for the Sunday morning club run

7th October The Viking challenge 30 km and 50 km off road routes, excellent well promoted event, full details and entry form from www.vikingchallenge.org.uk
Usually quite a few club riders take part, some more seriously than others, this year promises to be a real mud fest, unless there is dramatic change in the weather. The shorter distance being suitable for the younger riders who might have a mountain bike.

Peter Pain has now attended a BCF Level 2 Coach and Go Ride course and is running training sessions at Barkston Heath, see separate News item.

RAF Barkston Heath 2007
The series has finished for the year and the overall winners were Jim Coleman by the small margin of 40 points from Tom Mendham in the senior event and Oliver Fensom from Spalding by just 1 point from Jade Ostler. It is hoped to arrange a presentation of trophies later in the year.
A full set of results is here»
Despite the weather being consistently awful, either wet, windy or both, turnouts have been good and the series almost broke even, even with the additional cost of the Red Cross whose services fortunately did not need to be called on.
A special mention to the helpers who turned out every week, Gordon, Janet, Alan, Ray and any others I have forgotten.
Also coaches Peter Pain and Linda Crane from Sleaford for encouraging the U16’s.
A very comprehensive set of photographs can be found at Lincs race Photos, courtesy of Steve Foreman. It is planned to add a gallery of photos to this report when time permits.
