Cyclo-Cross – 2010
If the thought of 6 months without thrashing up and down Gorse Lane depresses you or you will miss the thrill of getting dropped by the scratch group in the latest handicap R-R how about an hour spent grovelling around a muddy field as an excellent way of keeping fit during the winter and maintaining a competitive edge?
The Lincolnshire Cyclo-Cross League runs from mid September through to the New Year and there are quite a few events not far from Grantham. Details and timetable»

5 Sept Sponsored Bike Ride for the St Barnabas Hospice (formerly GIFTS) Grantham -Sleaford - Grantham.
Starting at 10am at The Muddle Go Nowhere, Grantham, cycle to Sleaford Hospice and return to The Muddle Go Nowhere.
Download Full details and registration form
Hospice web site: www.stbarnabashospice.co.uk

Witham Wheelers Open Road Races 18th July
Good fields for both races.
Download the programme for full details.

Club Open Road Races
Several important events:
Wednesday June 30th 7.00pm - Lincs League Handicap Road Race - If you want to try your hand at road racing this would be a good opportunity. You can take out a licence on the evening and the races are handicapped and not too long at around 30 miles.
Sunday July 18th - GT Ellingworth and GA Bennett Open Road Races - These are run under British Cycling regulations and for the more experienced rider.

The Club is looking for more entries for our GA Bennett Road Race on 18th July which is open to E/1/2/3 riders.
Note: this is Band 2 event not band 3 as shown in the hand book, so points are awarded down to 20th.
With no big teams or Elites entered so far there is the chance for good ranking points and a healthy prize list boosted by Granthams new bike shop Pedal Pushers (www.pedalpushersbikeshop.co.uk)
The course is just off the A1 (see map) 30 minutes drive North of Peterborough and based on rolling quiet country lanes allowing for competitive racing. A report on last years event can be seen on the British Cycling website

Jack O’Connor Interclub 25
On Tuesday June 29th it is the Interclub 25 mile time trial which we are promoting, this is an interclub competition between riders from Grantham, Newark, Sleaford and Lincoln, It would be good to have as many club riders as possible taking part. Ideally you should fill out a Time Trial entry form (download here) and give it to Tony Mendham ASAP with £3. The HQ for the event is at Silk Willoughby village Hall.
Course C25/22 Silk Willoughby - Osbournby roundabout to Donnington and back to Silk Willoughby.

The Circuit Time Trial was held on Tuesday 1st June.
This event was one lap (approx 12 miles) of the Road Race course, with start and finish at the Wyville turn, see map. We did this as a change from riding 10s every week and its a nice scenic route. OK it has a hill but that's what lightweight carbon fibre bikes are for.

Barkston Heath Cycle Junior Coaching and Racing
Together with Sleaford Wheelers we are runnning junior cycle coaching and racing at RAF Barkston Heath starting on Wednesday 28th April 2010. Follow on dates are 12th & 26th May, 9th & 23rd Jun, 7th & 21st Jul, 4th & 18th Aug. Ages: 8 – 16. £1.50 per rider.
These sessions cater for complete novices to more experienced junior riders. More details»

Tuesday 27/4 Club 10m Handicap TT Please could everyone try and sign on by 6.45 at the latest, as we need to start as near 7.00 as possible, this is to make sure everyone is finishing in reasonable light and give the starter a chance to sort the field out.
A small rear LED light is also a good idea as it greatly improves visibilty from behind.
In case you do not know the 10 mile handicap league is open to all club members and runs through the season with your handicap based on your best time on the Gorse Lane course.
With points being awarded each week, your highest 8 point scores to count overall.
Non-members are also welcome to ride as guests but ineligible for the league.
This means that a rider who can consistently improve through the year has the best chance of winning.

Club Runs
With the clocks going back and the racing season getting into full swing, clubruns will now revert to starting from the Market Cross.
Generally there will be 2 runs with the faster group leaving at 9.00am and a steadier group (Bill Harrison leading when available) leaving at 9.15am.
Routes will be decided on the morning unless someone has a specific idea and posts details on the message board in the days before.

AGM - Tuesday 1st December at 7.30 at the Cricket Club
Just a reminder about the much anticipated AGM. I have attached the Agenda, Minutes from last year and the Provisional calendar for 2010 just to wet your appetite. Download these docs. here.
Please make the effort to attend, the club and its events do not run themselves and even if you do not volunteer for anything at least you can have an input into what the club will be doing over the next year.

Clubruns
2 rides are going out regularly on Sundays, with Bill's steadier run leaving the market Place at 9.15 prompt, to avoid any confusion with the faster group, which is now leaving at 9.30. Route details are posted on the Web Site discussion forum when possible.
Remember these rides are for all club members to enjoy and not a personal training ride.
Also on the 6th December the Club Run will meet up with the Melton Olympic Club for a joint ride, a chance to meet some new faces.

Mince Pie Run 20 December
Details as per last newsletter the clubrun will head for Sibthorpe Potland Fisheries for around 11.00 to meet up with Social and Family members to eat mince pies etc.

Tues 4th August - Club 10 mile Time Trial & BBQ
The annual club BBQ was held in memory of long time club member John Edwards who sadly died earlier this year.
The hoped for good weather failed to materialise with another damp and breezy evening. This didn't deter a good turn out of riders and family and friends for an enjoyable evening in which quite a bit of money was raised for Kidney Research. Results»

Lincs League 2009
The 8th Round on 1st July was promoted by the Witham Wheelers.
As quite a few club members are planning to ride the Lincs League, this year, the events have been added to the club event list with details of the organisers.
These events are good introduction to road racing, being handicapped over around 30 miles distance and run on a quite informal basis on alternate Wednesday evenings through the summer.
They are promoted by the TLI, you can get a day licence at the race but if you are planning to ride several then it might be worth joining, see details» Joining Form» (pdf files)
If you are planning to ride an event and can offer a lift to another club member, please post a note on the club message board.

Sportives 7th June 2009
Once again Phil Etches has devised a great circuit of the Lincolnshire Wolds to give you a chance of a 100 mile ride on quiet traffic free roads. It's an area only an hours drive away which you probably do not know very well, but is ideal for cycling with beautiful scenery and quite hilly in places.
Times: Meeting at the Market Cross 0700 hrs, sort out transport, drive to start at Revesby, set off on ride 0815hrs, cafe stop at Tealby Tea Rooms 1200hrs (58 miles ), back at Revesby approx 1530hrs.
All those wishing to ride please reply to Phil E message on the Forum so that we can organise transport. Route map»

Club Runs from 29 March
9 am start from the Market Place for the faster group
9:30 start fro the easier ride. See message board for confirmation that a group will be going out.

Family Rides
Sat. June 13th . Other dates to come.
Meet 9.30 outside the Meres Leisure Centre, Trent Road, Grantham.

A gentle ride of around 15 miles with a café stop, on quiet roads and sustrans cycle paths.
These rides are termed family rides although bringing a child is not compulsory, but children must be accompanied by an adult, we cannot be responsible for lone children. Everybody welcome, the pace to suit the slowest rider (child or adult).
We hope to continue these rides monthly, further dates to be advised. We may vary the start point for future rides so we can have a change of scene and avoid busy roads.
Any further information call 0795 2030559
Hope to see you there, Karen Chris & Eleanor

Barkston Heath 2009
Wednesday 27th May Barkston Heath, with full facilities available again, so senior event staring around 7.30. Don't forget if you have any children bring them along, all ages catered for from 3 years upwards, see attached link for photographs of events so far. www.lincsracephotos.co.uk
Please come along and support this facility, the more riders we have the better the events will be and the more chance you will have of riding with others of a similar ability.
